how often do you change your spark plugs

We got a couple of days where I got to ride in February so I took advantage and went for a couple of rides. At about 1/8 of a take (same gas that had been in it all winter) left of trying to run out the take with fuel stabilizer in it my engine light came on. It would come on after I would start the bike and then go off.
I took my bike in to have the 5000 mile check-up done and the said the ligh was a "no combustion" alarm. They said they have been getting that alarm when the spark plug tip get rounded from where. He said that they change them at every 5000 mile check-up for that reason.
So my question is how often do you change your plugs. thanks for the response

Re: how often do you change your spark plugs

Changed them when I got the bike, last summer. Changed them when the new gear drive cams were put in. Changed them when a big bore kit was done. Changed them with the CV carb mods. Changed them with the new carb. Wrecked on the ice and the bike idled to a stall on it's side, changed them.
Wow... never really thought of it, that way.

Re: how often do you change your spark plugs

I change them once a year wether they need it or not. But just like Ogur I have changed them every time I made engine mods and also every time I do a dyno run.

Put 5,000 Miles easy to do and figure with the cost is easy to change while taking them out to inspect anyway ....

Re: how often do you change your spark plugs

Hmmm, well, when I was poor and riding me old Ironhead, before I had the top end redone, I used to carry two (one w/ a higher heat range) in a fork bag and had a wrench on my keychain, if you can see where that's going. Probably had eight or ten more on the workbench cleaned up with a propane torch that I would just cycle through (front plug would get fouled often, especially in heavy traffic). After the top end was redone, I already had my Springer, so I haven't ridden that one enough to establish a maintenance interval, but I prefer to follow the maintenance schedule unless there's some known reason (mods, riding habits, environment) that I should inspect them sooner.
As for the Springer, the maintenance sched calls for inspecting them every 5000 miles and replacing every 10000 miles. I'm inclined to replace every 5000, since we're only talking about two freekin' plugs, and because it's just as easy to put new plugs in if you're pulling the old ones out anyway.

Re: how often do you change your spark plugs

I only change them if necessary (if scoot is not running well). No particular schedule. One thing for sure though - my bike doesn't like anything but platinum plugs. Runs like total crap on standard plugs and burns them up quickly.
