anyone have the new vance and hines straightshot hs on their duece,,,,you running with or without baffles,,how do you like them?
I installed the V&H straightshots/hi-lo shotguns, on my Deuce, a couple of months ago. No baffles, but torque cones. They look great, but I have always liked shotgun pipes. In fact, the V&H replaced the 1 3/4" shotguns by Santee. Love the look, but finally got bit by the big pipe bug.
They sound great, and with the S&S, they run great, too.
I'm gonna take out the cones, though, and install Thunder Monsters, by Big City Thunder. Better sound, and better throttle response.
Hope this helps.

For about three bucks you can duplicate what the Big City Thunder Monsters do for you. I have a set of them that sit on the shelf, they really didn't do anything for my bike performance wise. It's your $$$ but the torque cones work better IMHO.

Jim, I've been happy with the cones. I put a set of monsters in a friend's 01 Heritage, that had an S&SE, and Santee 21/4 Shortys installed.
She was unhappy with the sound, and throttle response, and was very pleased with the monsters. That was the basis for thinking of installing them on my Deuce. Now, I'll just leave well enough alone. :usaflag: :gun2:

Honestly she probably would have ha dthe same or better experience with the torque cones. I paid for the monster baffles, and I even have a 100hp Harley I tried them on. Where are they now? In a box under my toolbox. Take that for what it's worth.

Rick the thundermonsters are really just a fancy way (bolt on ) of achieving the age old lollipop baffle in your drag pipes trick. DJ's right, you can duplicate them for a lot less than the 80 or so bucks that they cost. Here's some homemade baffles that I made from ribbon auger and believe it or not they had better seat of the pants low end and increased my mileage 6 MPG. However they gave my pipes a sharper crack sound , and I like the deep low sound, so I removed them. I originally made them for SE2's to remedy the reversion/racking off , and they worked, but they fit my Cycle Shack also. Don't know if I'm right but have the theory that they stumble the exhaust/put a spin on it a exit. This helps low end and the spin helps scavenge exhaust gases. Bear in mind I'm no expert...just a chicken farmer, but these are practically free.
Hi, Mark.
Thanks for the info. I have never really had any problems using the cones.
I just wanted to try something that might make my bike run a little better.
I'm not buying the monsters. I'm just going to keep it the way I have it, which my gut told me in the beginning, was the way to go.
I'm no engineer, either. Just a guy who works the assembly line at Chrysler.
Everything I know about bikes, I learned through trial and error, but no one has ever touched any of my bikes. When I have a problem, or want to change something, I figure out how to do it myself. I don't quit, until it is right.
Thanks, DJ, and you, Mark.
You guys saved me $80.00.
I'll spend it at Cycle Spot, next time I want some more goodies for the bikes.

Not to hijack the thread but, I'm waiting on a set of V&H Big Shot s Staggards to arrive. Any need or advantage to applying the torque cones while I have this thing tore down??

The Big Shot staggerds have a balance tube or "Power Chamber" this helps eliminate reversion which causes most torque and HP loss at low RPM.
I'd say torque cones are not necessary for your particular pipe.

I didn't know what to call them, just knew that they worked. I'm always experimenting to come up with stuff that keeps most of my money in my pocket.
