I had a Thunder Header on my bike for about a week. I gave it 18 pulls (tuning everything in) on the dyno and it never got close to the peak HP and TQ numbers my pythons made. And too boot the seat of pants pull from 3000 rpm up was terrible (it just didn't pull).
Now, if you want to dare, bring your bike and thunderheader down, and lets compare it to my D&D fatcat on a dyno.....
Whoa! Oh It's on now...
Exhaust shootouts.... Whoa! :gun2:

I hope they got something going for them other than looks.
That is one ( ! ) ugly pipe =8P

Not to add insult to injury, but I personally thought the Thunderheader sounded like a tractor on my bike. :barf:
The sight of them turned me away quick....No Way!
I'll put in another vote for the Fatcat. D&D has made one sweet pipe. The best looking 2-1 IMHO and the performance is second to none. :gasthrowe
Sounds like a challenge. :spank:
Glad you like your pipes Audible, thats all that matters. Ride with Pride.
I can't say that they rule. No one has them around here. Guess it's secret Kingdom that they rule in.
This is getting a little agressive... :flamejump I never called anyone else's pipes ugly. I merely was looking for performance comments.
I guess I'll have to be more carefull in my post statements.
Audible :ignore:
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder on all the mods we do to our bikes. I don't care for some folks mods but hey that's thier right and what makes HD riders unique. On the performance issue.... I can't say that I will ever have a dyno test to prove anything. If performance is judged on the seat of your pants feeling you get when you crank it up and it makes you happy that's all that counts.
Sorry Audible, I should have warned you. Everyone here is pretty nice but they can turn on you without warning. But hang in there, as I said, they really are a nice bunch.
It did seem they came down awful hard on your pipes, didn't it.
I understand your disappointment. You come on here all pumped up and excited about something and wanting to share and BAM!
Get kicked in the gut. :bash:

Wheather you run a ugly ole Thunderheader or a POWER house CyCle Shack 2 into 1 ,anytime you start daring you can expect to recieve the aggressive. Just gonna have to grow a little thicker skin to prevent them feelings from getting hurt. I personally want a straight ,honest answer/opinion to any questions that I may have. Anything less would be a lie. Ammo's right....It's what does it take to make you happy.
DJ have you ever heard anything on my Cycle shack shorty 2 into 1 far a dyno numbers go ?....I've never seen anything and am just curious.
Let me down easy , even tho I'm already Broke
Hi Audible... Welcome to Cycle Chat!
In the words (sort of) of Forest Gump... "agressive is as agressive does..." :whatever:
But It's all good man... you don't have to hold back...
You did dare for responses... and most folks are pretty honest... :shifty:
I thought it was going to be an interesting thread... cuz we all have our opinions and preferences on exahusts... so far so good! :boldlgree
Cheers!

Well chit,
Audi I thought this was going to be one of those fun threads.
Just the guys giving each other a little crap about pipes.
Didn't mean to hurt no feelings here, besides if you can beat what I'm running on my bike as far as ugly goes you've done something.
Welcome to the group ~Pete
As you have all said; "to each their own". I like my pipe, and it did increase the midrange on my bike. Plus I like the exhaust tone it delivers(my opinion of course) when I crank on it... :gasthrowe
Thanks for the welcome. Looks like a great site. :elk:

See, Audible is from California where Thunderheaders are on 40% of the bikes that have aftermarket pipes. I know Don Rich, he's a customer of mine, and he makes good pipes. They sound decent and are louder than the other two top pipes (Pro-Pipe & Fat Cat). As it was put to me "They are on of the best flowing pipes but they look like a Donkey's D**K". Don's shop is right here in the Bay and he has alot of friends. The HA all use em, Ness has used em, Simms too. They have been around longer than the other similar pipes and the power chamber is better than Van and Hines. They dont have stepped headers like the Fat Cat cause stepped headers are kind of a new thing. My bike guy said that the best Dyno he ever seen was a D&D stepped header with a thunderheader end on it. It was all tapped up and spliced together. But yes pipes are a matter of personal prefference. I have a Deuce, not a Donkey, so I think I am going to get the Fat Cat. And performance wise I have seen charts on both and they both give good improvement.
I run them myself after having been converted from a 2-2 lover. They do sound awesome, and look ugly. The chroming is very high quality, but they do look ugly. And the seat-of-the-pants gain, for me, was nothing short of spectacular, but they are ugly.
Well, at least you can't see them when you're riding!

Like someone has already said...beauty is in the eye of the beholder...Man I don't find them ugly at all. In fact I think they look VERY cool! While performance comes first on my bike, if they were THAT ugly I wouldn't settle for ugly to gain a few if any additional HP over other top performing 2-1 pipes.
There are too many options these days...why would you keep them on? From the look of your bike it's a beauty...just surprised you want to turn it into such an ugly beast
Mine sound great and the performance on my 05 Deuce was much better.Of course there alot of people who just have to get what everybody else likes.

The Thunderheader is made by Rich Products which is wholly owned by the Hell's Angels. The pipes are known for their poor quality welds and terrible chrome. But they DO perform well. As you should know if you even begin talking about performance, combinations are the most important variable. No pipe is going to be the ONE for every motor. Nevertheless, I prefer my RB Racing LSR 2-1 pipe. It's made by the guys that set the land speed record on the H-D. Do a Google for RB Racing and read up on their technology. You'll be impressed!

I wasn't aware that Rich Products was owned by the Hells Angels...........is this confirmed and true?
The chrome and welds on my Thunderheader are great, no flaws or problems at all.
I went from slip-ons, to true duals with slip-ons, to the 2-1 TH.........and so far the TH is the best one yet in performance and sound.
You can see it on my ride at the link below.

If you're a fan of the 2-1 pipe, you need to look at RB Racing's LSR pipes. LSR stands for Land Speed Record. RB Racing set the H-D speed record on the salt flats. I don't see Rich Products out there! RB doesn't sell in catalogues or through the millions of online retailers out there. They sell direct only, which is why most have never heard of them. Check them out at www.rbracing-rsr.com. They also have amazing turbo setups and closed-loop fuel injection setups. I have one of their pipes in a polished silver ceramic finish. It's a distinctive look that will never turn colors! And by the way, independent testing has shown the LSR to perform better than the Thunderheader by 6-18 HP, depending on engine combo.

Yeah Steve, it's confirmed and true. I'm surprised it's not more widely known. The ownership of the company doesn't mean it's not a good pipe. Lots of friends run them but have had problems with chrome popping off, etc. Heat shields do a lot for their appearance. Looks like you have them installed on your bike?

I don't like the looks of any 2-1 pipe. They may perform better, but I don't need that extra 2 hp.

I keep hearing that the th pipes are ugly, and dont boost hp. For one, it depends on what bike there on and what style your going for. And two, Its not only horse power your looking for. Does anyone ever care about throttle response? I have th on my 07 streetbob and yes I feel more hp ( with the race tuner kit and air cleaner kit which is the only way to properly upgrade exaust ) but mostly I feel the torgue and throttle response. Of coarse throttle responce does not matter if someone cant use it to there advantage , But I find that I love my th pipes. They sound dark and evil instead of just noise.

I personally had a TH on my scoot, and it made 8 less HP than a D&D fatcat did I'm not a huge fan of the 2 into 1 look on a wide lide either way, but the TH wasn't attractive at all IMHO, and I felt it sounded more like a tractor than a hot rod.

Pretty simple answer in my case...I bought my '06 Wide Glide with a Thunderheader system already installed by the previous owner. Even though Seat of the pants performance is great I want to change the pipe out as I am not happy with the looks. Thinking about V&H Big Shot staggered's but then it seems like everyone has those on their bikes. I'm looking for that elusive combo of looks, power and sound.
I'm open to suggestions...anyone?
I've also taken a pretty close look at the V&H Pro Pipe and Big Radius (both their 2-2 and 2-1) and D&D Fat Cat. Too many choices!

I tried 3 pipes on the dyno at R&R after the 500mi break in. D&D boarzilla, TH and the R&B prostock 124 (see specs below). The TH left almost 6HP/9TQ on the table. It was the worst performing of the bunch. maybe on a smaller eng it would have done better but in my case, not so. If i had picked the TH on quality of workmanship or looks, i never would have even tried it. The D&D pipe was second leaving 3HP/4TQ, the D&D pipe is well made and looked good, imho.
The guys at R&R have been building big motors for me for almost 20yrs. i spent 6 hours that day trying pipes, air filters, plugs, wires etc. for my new motor. it was a long day but fun.
R&R is building me a new 131" as we speak and i now looking at using
http://www.burnsstainless.com/Megaph...egaphones.html
for my next pipe.
