Who makes good exhaust in black? Any good hi-temp coatings for regular pipes? I have a 2001 FXDX and want to get near 100HP/TQ from it so I want something that will perform. Of course it can't be too butt ugly. That's my job. :)

Thanks,

Are you looking for a 2 into 2 system or a 2 into 1 exhaust?

I can get you a D&D Fatcat in Black 2 into 1 system.

How about a Thunderheader? John ran that on his 103-hp Dyna, and it came in black.

Someone on this forum put Dyna Jim's FatCat 2-1 in black on their bike. It looked very nice. Search the gallery photos or maybe someone remembers who it was. The 2 into 1 will boost your torque. Then if you do the air and carb, you'll get a good boost. Others here can tell you more about that.
The person here who did it had a Night Train (I think) so the black finish pipes were a natural.

After some research - I was going to go with the black myself but decided on the Fat Cat and at the time it wasn't available in black - I only found a couple factory black exhaust systems. I can't vouch for performance or looks for any of them but at least a starting point.

RB Racing (http://www.rbracing-rsr.com) and Thunderheaders 2>1.

Options include having some coated, a couple sources I found were - I'm sure there's plenty of other's.
M&R (http://www.amr-coatings.com/colors.html)

Performance (http://www.performancecoatings.com/headercoatings.html)

Hope this helps.

I tried a Thunderheader on my bike, I even gave it 18 pulls (tuning for it) on the dyno to give it a fair shake, and it made less HP and Torque than my pythons did. I haven't had a chance to try the Fatcat on the dyno yet, but it feels as good as my pythons at upper RPM range and much better at low RPM.

I can get the black fatcat direct from D&D it's just not as good of a deal as the chrome one is.

M-R's shop is about 20 minutes from my house here in Knoxville and I had them do my PYO crack pipes.
They do good work if your interested in having a set of aftermarkets done.
I had already stripped the chrome from mine so I don't know if they charge extra for stripping or not.
He charged me $70 for outside coating of both pipes.
Ceramic is amazing stuff,I can shut my bike off and in just a few minutes I can lay my hand on the black pipes and the chrome heat shields will fry the skin off.
Ceramic is not bullet proof,it will scratch and chip just like chrome but I have had mine going on 2 years now and they look just like they did the day I picked them up.

As I suspected. I got all the information that I was looking for.

Jim, How loud are those D&Ds. Do you have any pics? even the chrome ones.

Thanks

EOD , How do you like those Fat Cats? Are they loud? Or can you even hear anymore judging by your handle. :)

What??? I can't hear what you typed :nut: Tried to describe it in the - T-Sport Fairing thread (http://www.cyclespot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685) - like you, I'm a newbie to the Harley world and tough for me to compare to other things I haven't seen or heard. But to me they sound really good. Not as loud as drag pipes. Jim might be one person that can "quantify" the sound since he took Pythons off and put the Fat Cat on - sort of back to back comparison, plus he's taken the baffle out I believe. Excellent quality IMHO. PS: I have a couple of pictures in the member gallery of them.

sacfxdx,
I can't speak for DJ, but my Fatcat sounds great. It has a nice low rumble at idle and low RPM, but it lets out the noise when you open the throttle. It also has great performance. You can see mine in chrome in my Members Gallery and also Rattletrapp has one in black on his night train. I think they both look great. I wasn't a big fan of the 2-1, but as soon as I put it on the bike, it looked like itwas made for the Heritage. Like DJ, I haven't been able to put mine on the dyno yet either, so my performance thoughts are by the seat of my pants. Check out the D&D thread in the Exhaust Spot. Just my :2cents:
