View Full Version : Pipes and Air for wifes Low Rider
Hey, I'm brand new to this forum..looks good so far. I know this is a can of worms but here goes. I have a carbed 2000 Deuce, and put Hooker long shots on it when new. I also added the Harley Big Air kit. I'm very happy with my bike and its performance. Last weekend we traded my wife's 883 Sportster for and '01 Dyna Low Rider, carbed and bone stock. I'm noticing a lot a guys doing 2 into 1 exhaust systems. I also have read that some prefer the Ness big sucker air kit. Thought I would pick some brains before I spend the bucks on her bike. Thanks

My wife has a low rider EFI and we put the V&H pro-pipe HS along with the EFI download and the SE air cleaner. This is a sweet combo and I would highly recommend it. The 2-1 gives great performance and also has a nice mellow sound. My wife had a carbed low rider before and we had a similar set up with the dynojet thunderslide kit in the carb.
I have the Ness big sucker on my road king and that is also a great unit and easy to install.
See now, that wasn't a can of worms. At least not until the "I don't like the thunderslide" or the "I don't like the look of the 2-1" people start posting :gun2:
Welcome and keep posting
Welcome drhrsh,
You will like it here. Its fun with plenty of tech advise. I think you'll find that those here who have tried the 2 into 1 like it very much.
Check some of the other post. I believe most like the Big Sucker but some had trouble with them.

Welcome, drhrsh
I think you will find that you will be able to get the best performance from a good 2 into 1 system, although many people (myself included) prefer the 2 into 2 look. I have heard of some problems with the big sucker, but have had 2 of them myself on 2 different bikes, both installed without a hitch and never a problem with either. It is also a lot cheaper than the Screamin Beagle.

Even I have to admit I'm not a big fan of the 2 into 1 look on a Harley.. The problem is, there's some really good 2 into 1 pipes out there, and I have one of the best on my bike...
Big suckers work great, easy to install, and keep the oil inside the engine, instead of alongside or dripping on the cam cover. I have one of those too...
P.S. Maalox, " I Don't Like Thunderslides", but I'll sell you my old one :jump:
Once you go Mikuni, you never go back..... :whip:

I would like to try the used t-slide (or the Mikuni) but we are currently an all EFI family :tongue2:
What is it with the thunderslides that some people dislike? Now I understand if your going to get a complete new carb go with the Mikuni, but for those that don't want to replace the carb won't the lighter slide help throttle response?
BTW the UPS website says I should receive my V&H 2-1 pipes for the deuce today :boldlgree looking forward to putting them on this weekend. Do you think I will I be able to reuse the box to ship my Big Shot Staggered to Molan overseas?

The biggest reason I try to get people to buy a carb instead of a Thunderslide is price. You pay almost as much (within $120) for the T-Slide, and it's not near as responsive as the Mikuni is, plus you generallly pick up a little HP with the Mikuni over a T-Slided Carb. Also the replacement of the entire carb is generally easier than installing the T-Slide.
The pro-pipe box is much shorter and fatter than the BSS box, I doubt you'll be able to use it. :cyclops:

Thanks for all the input. I have a thunderslide on my Deuce with the Screamin Eagle Air kit and Hooker long shots. It performs beautifully, goes over Vail pass ( over 10,000 ft ) without missing a beat. I also am not keen on two into one look. I will probably get Hookers for my wifes Low Rider also, but not sure of which big air kit, and wether to just rejet, Thunderslide or what. I will continue to read the posts.
Thanks for all the input!
The Big Sucker kit is a easy install and really suprised me on the instant performance improvement.
Thanks for all the help! Ordered the Pyhtons, jet kit and Big Sucker from Cycle Spot....free shipping and great prices.

Let's hear some feedback after the install.
I am still thrilled everytime I hear my Pythons... your gonna love them! :flamejump

fbomer, do you run them with the baffles? I wasn't satisfied completely until I cut the baffles down.
Hey Deuce... I'm running with the baffles in... I'm happy with the sound... They are just loud enough for me... doesn't upset my wife or neighbors... and the boy's don' t make me ride in the back:nut:

With my baffles cut down it's only slightly louder. My neighbors don't seem to care. I don't live for them but also try to be considerate by not making too much racket when coming or going. A couple more decibels here or there aren't going to make much difference. There's a guy with a race car that's way louder than my bike so he gets most of the attention. Most of the folks around here are running without baffles and nobody's ridin' in the rear unless their bikes are too slow. :)
