View Full Version : 2000 Wide Glide pipe question
My buddy just bought a set of SE 16 gauge double barrel pipes for his 2000 Wide Glide. We'll be putting them on Monday night. He wants to take the baffles out before we install the pipes. Has anyone heard the 16 gauges without the baffles?? And, without the baffles should we use torque cones??
He heard the 16 gauges on my Deuce and didn't think they were loud enough. So that's why he wants to pull them.

First of all the 16 Gauge double barrels accept the V&H Big Shot Staggerd baffles, so he might just try and find a set of those to try (their a tad louder). Short of that, I would suggest maybe just cutting down the baffle's length instead of removing it entirely. No baffle mean no backpressure, and can be hard on performance.

Dyna Jim, thanks for the info. I'll let him know your suggestions and hopefully he'll listen.

I also have the 16 ga. on my o4 DWG. I also didn't think they were loud enough so I decided to do a little modification. When you remove the baffles you will notice what appears to be a baffle inside a baffle. What I did was to cut the baffle just behind the weld that holds the 2 pieces together and removed the inner baffle, welded a new nut on the outer baffle and reinstalled them. They are a little louder but I think they sound like s**t. They sound kind of tinney and don't have the deep rumble I was looking for.
I think I would take DJ's advice and switch out the baffles for some V&H.
Just my opinion for what that's worth.
DJ, Do you have access to the V&H baffles for these pipes? If so post a link or email me the particulars. I want to try them before I resort to changing pipes.
Thanks
We installed the pipes last night without the baffles. :dizzy: That's the way he wanted it. My God is that thing LOUD!! :errr: He couldn't understand why I didn't like it. I told him louder doesn't always mean better, sometimes it's just Louder!!

JPC, when I had the baffle out on my Python's the bike was a dog. Just by cutting them down to 4 1/2" made them just a slight bit quieter (tolerable) and I regained the performance I had lost. Your friend will get tired of that loud bark real quick.
Deuce02, he at least used torque cones. I'm not sure if he'll get tired of it or not?!?! He's a loud person in general. :nut: I've got a feeling when were riding together, I'll either be in front or a couple of hundred yards behind!! :errr:
