I am looking at buying a simple jack to facilitate oil changes and performing basic maintenance. Cycle Spot lists Part #: 37-9885 MULTI-LIFT MC/ATV JACK EA, but there are no details or a picture of it.

I found this one http://www.larincorp.com/product_detail.cfm?ProductID=93 for sale locally.

Any advice or other suggestions will be very appreciated.

Check this link out. http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/bikelift.htm You can also google "how to build a motorcycle lift" and find a bunch of plans to build your own metal lift.

I have a Larin lift. Bought it for my 06 LowRider and used it twice. The adaptor is necessary for mine and is difficult to use, but the jack works great. Good luck.

Your local sears has one for under 100 bucks. Lifts the whole bike, looks well made. I have a table lift and a couple other lifts or I'd buy one.

Thanks for the tip. I did not think of Sears :o - I checked the feedback on their "value" lift and it was not very encouraging, however, they have one for a bit more ($169) that is highly rated by users and seems very well made.

I am going to take a look at it tomorrow and post some comments.

I would get the Professional one. I have had the "cheaper" Sears model for years and it has worked great. The pro series only needs 3 1/2 in clearence to fit under the bike and the other needs about 5 1/2.

Yea, I have the same jack, I have to build a ramp for the front tire to get the jack under my bike, but it serves the purpose. It's a cheap way around the expense of the full length jack or work station.

I purchased the Pro Craftsman jack. It seems like a made product and it was on sale for $149. All aluminum construction and easy to use.
The bike feels very stable once lifted, even without using a tie-down.

Two minor gripes:
The "made in China" sticker bothers me :burn:
The two lift bars are too wide to fit neatly inside the frame jack rail (for lack of a better word to describe it) of my Road King.

Other than that I am pleased.

Thanks to all that provided ideas.

I just got a Bigfoot hydralic powerlift and I think it's the best made and works as well as in the demonstration on their website of Bigfootpowerlift.com . Check it out before you buy a foreign made dangerous piece of junk. I'm larrygolden@cox.net. Good luck.

I also have a $89.95 Craftsman lift. Actually I'm on my 3rd one. Jack #1: Hydro cycl. failed and Push / pull handle broke off at weld. Jack #2: Push / pull handle broke off at weld ( needs to be re-engineered ). The reason I went and got #3 is because it's a no-hasstle swap for a new one....for life. I have a pickup truck and Sears is close to my house. No shipping, no shouting....BADA BING! :banger:

How can I advise what to be bought, when I am not allowed to? How can I ask for an advice what to buy when others are not allowed to give me/us an advice? What is the purpose of the Forum............?

:2cents: I'm not a moderator...but here's my guess based on your post above and your response:

You can give people the heads up on parts and receive info, that's not the issue at all. If I had to guess why your post was edited it was because you posted the link of a direct Cyclespot Competitor. No harm in trading advice on parts, tips, etc. That's what happens here. And I've seen people post links for specialty items not available through Cyclespot. But considering that the owner of this forum pays for it out of his own pocket...which is funded by the shop he runs (Cyclespot)...I'm sure they're not about to give away free advertising and steer business to competitors. In this case it sounds like the item in question is available through Cyclespot.

That's all.

Yeah, yeah, excellent communistic approach!

You must understand that I advertize NOTHING since I live thousands and thousands miles away from you and from the Chicle Chat.

Since I thought this was a PUBLIC Forum, I just wanted to emphasize my positive experience with J&P Cycles (couldn't size these letters smaller) bike lift, that is all. Also, I am not a genious, I also LEARN from other people, from other bikers, from various Forums, but first of all - from American Harley riders!

But I do not care, I have my bike and I shall leave for my ride!

Emir I also have had positive experience with them BUT, they do not Pay our bills This forum IS Free to us members BUT not to Dyna Jim, since his motorcycle parts business supports it. This is one of the few request/rules that he asks of us and I don't see the problem in honoring it.

FWIW, Once you shop at CYCLESPOT (http://www.cyclespot.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?) ,You'll forget about "those other places".

Nicely said Markster6828.

BTW, ANY vendor sponsored forum that I have used in the past, has a similar policy. If they are going to fund our forum, least we can do it NOT use it to advertise competitors.

emirharley:

There nothing "communistic" about that policy. It is as capitalistic as it gets.

"I just wanted to emphasize my positive experience with J&P Cycles"

Regarding the statement above: If you want to emphasize your positive experience with them, you should do it in THEIR sponsored forum (if they have one).

Ride safe!

Hey guys, where is the problem: I understand all PUBLIC Forums as the place where WE, the bikers, the people, can ask OTHER, more experienced bikers where to buy, what to buy, why to buy, how to use certain thing and to discuss all other acpects of biking.

I learned a lot from ANOTHER one BIG Forum where I am "recognized" member, I asked the number of questions and have gotten the number of answers. As I said, I LEARNED A LOT. And as the result of this internet/Forum friendship, four bikers from Atlanta, GA, showed up on their Harleys this summer in Sarajevo, Bosnia, in order to visit me and to have excelent ride and adventure (with me) along Bosnian, Croatian and Monte Negro coast.

So, I am not an enemy of Chicle Spot/Chat, but if I expect to get honest answers from Forum members, I also do intend to offer my modest "oversea" experience, which is based on the honest replies of the number of American bikers from another one Forum.

Whatsoever, God bless America and Harley Davidson heritage and lifestyle.

I tried the Sears jack thats on sale for 149. I didnt like it all. When it lifted my bike it didnt support my bike evenly theone side was about an inch lower. Also it would lower the bike back down all the way. I had to put a 2/4 under the rear tire for it to go down all the way. So I am still looking guys. But if anybody does have a low rider, the harley adapters do work very well and are cheap. LOL Sounds funny saying anything Harley sells is cheap !!!

Same here too, sturdy, solid, use it to push my bike to the wall so I can put my car and truck in my 2 car garage. Works fine on Road Kings and Softtails but Dyna frames are some different and I had to roll the bike up on a block of wood to get the jack under a Dyna.

For fabricating or major jobs I use a Bend Pak Ranger RML-750HD Lift which runs about $900, but if it's a small job, I'll take the Ranger scissor jack off of the lift and use it on the floor like this. This little jack costs about $60 to 75 depending on what kind and where you get it. You'll need another person to stand the bike up off the kickstand and a wrench to raise and lower. When collapsed, it's very portable and will probably fit into a saddlebag.

I just got a J&S Jack and it's great. Don't get the Sears, it sucks, you have to strap your bike to that jack or it's unstable. The J&S Jack is very stable, not too expensive and they have an oil drain pan for a few bucks extra that fits in underneath the bike when it's on the jack to channel the oil down to your recepticle. Their customer service is the best. They stand behind their product.

Sears has two models, the normal craftsman and the professional. I got the professional mainly because a found a ton of horrible reviews on the other one. Depending on where you jack it from and what you are removing you need strap. It will lift like 18 inches so at that height I definately want more stability.

I finally got the Craftsman Pro jack and love it but have one question. I noticed on the '07 fatboy the two horizontal shocks were a little lower than the bottom frame of the bike. Is it ok to place the jack in this area because it is the center of the frame? Or can I screw up the shocks? Keep in mind that we are only talking about a 16th of an inch space tops.

Markster6828
03-03-2007, 06:32
Fatboy07, I wouldn't let the shocks rest on the jack. IMO the weight of your bike could bend the shock mounting bolts from the side force of the jack. I lift mine on the cross member where the rear of the shocks are mounted, just not on the shocks themselves.

Got my jack from Harbor Freight, 50 bucks. Seems just as good as the more expensive models, I use if often. You will need the HD adapter blocks for a Dyna, about 20 bucks from your friendly H-D dealer. Mine sits a little low, need to roll the front wheel up on a 2X4 to get the jack under the bike with the adapters on.
Hope this helps!

I was told the jack from Harbor Freight was like 4 1/2 " off the ground, Man that seems a little high to roll under a scooter. Wouldn't you thing they would of thought about this and tested the jacks. My buddy has a 95 model fxwg, his son bought him one of the yellow jacks and said its too high to go under his bike.

If your looking for a great jack, go withthe J&S one. I just got mine today and it worked the first time I used it. It lifted my 2002 Dyna Low Rider with no problem did not need any adapters and it went down just as easy back on the kickstand. A little pricey $361 but you get what you pay for. I had a Craftsman with the adapters and still did not have enough clearance. I gave it to my son for use on his bike. Good luck
