View Full Version : S.e. Exhaust
Anyone familiar with the S.E. 16 Ga. Shotgun Exhaust?
What's your opinion. Are they similar to any thing else?
Thanks

MR502,
The SE 16 gauge is made by V&H for Harley, the crossover is slightly larger than it's close relative Big Shots staggered and longs. They accept the same baffle but the SE piece has a more resrtictive baffle and quieter one, however I've had customers change out that baffle for the V&H one.
As for if the larger Power Chamber is of any benefit, the jury is still out, I suspect it's of little benefit over the V&H pipe.

Thanks for the reply. I kind of suspected they were very close to being the same.
I will always appreciate others .02 because that is the way I get information into my little brain. I am sure over time I will have lots of stupid questions.
Thanks Again,
Bill
PS This is a great site I am sure it will answer many of my questions. Thanks for starting it!
Any suggestions on improving a wide glide I will gladly listen

Hmm Improvements,
First thing you do, is throw away the factory seat, and get a Mustang, second thing you do is get the pipes and a High Flow air filter.
Hi again Jim,
I already have replaced the exhaust with the S.E shotgun I also installed the S. E. stage 1 air cleaner kit. Probably not the best choice but I am afraid of voiding the warranty with aftermarket parts. I also replaced the seat with the Harley Sundowner touring seat. Again probably not the best choice. I would be interested in replacing the baffles with the V&H baffles if it would make the sound a little louder. If I do that would I have to have the ECM downloaded again? I have read some good things on the Doherty machine air cleaner and power vents. Are they worth the effort to change over? How about the Ness Super Sucker? Again I apoligize for all the questions but I want to get the most bang for my buck if you know what I mean.
Thanks,
Dyna Jim

I'm not saying there a bad pipe, I just don't know if they are any better or worse than the BSS or BSL by V&H. The SE airfilter however will leak oil over a long period of time because of the way they route the PCV. The Ness Big Sucker, uses a one piece backing plate the utilizes integral PCV passages that go directly into the venturi of the carb or throtle body, vs. the SE uses hoses that route the PCv in below the venturi. What happens with the SE kit is the hoses fill up with oil over time because oil is in the PCV tract. Once it builds up the filter will leak oil because gravity takes over and it will either drip on your cam cover or splatter back on the bike. Not a critical issue but it can be kind of messy. The Doherty system is nice, however I am not a fan of external PCV filters, they tend to pick up dust, and get grimmy over time.

Jim, good point on the Screamin Eagle High Flow. The oil will shoot out when you get on it. I have the Ness Big Sucker and it works very well to suck any oil back into the carb and burn it up instead of dumping it on the motor.
Regarding the question about the MAP having to be changed. No, not if you're just changing the baffles.
