View Full Version : Hooker tuned flow true dual headers
I put the hooker true duals on my 04 RK Custom. Also added a S&S 510 gear drive cam, big sucker air cleaner and PCIII-usb.
During the dyno tuning session we did a test with the exhaust. Both pipes wide open on HP and then another run with both closed on TQ. The tuning was not complete and we did not change the tuning for the different exhaust settings. Therefore these results may be a bit rough, but they are interesting none the same.
HP
81.5 for the HP setting and 77.5 for the TQ setting. At 3000 rpm though the TQ setting had 48HP and the HP setting only had 42HP.
TQ
Max TQ was 87 for the TQ setting while it was 89 for the HP setting (at 4400 rpm). But at 3000 rpm TQ setting provided 82 ft-lbs and HP setting only 75 ft-lbs.
At the end of the session we set both of them about 1/2 way open and the final results were HP=80.5 and TQ=90.9
I should get the electronic files one night this week or else I'll scan the charts and post them.

Thats actually very impressive for stock cubic inches and stock heads. :flamejump
Also it looks like adjusting the baffles makes a way bigger difference than the .8 TQ that was mentioned in another post. :whip:

I finally found it! The link above has the dyno results with hooker 2-2, with one test set at TQ and the other HP. I knew I wasn't crazy(or at least only moderately so :) Unfortunately the charts only show HP, not TQ
I also know not to believe everything I see on the internet. But I did want to send the link for your viewing pleasure. :bounce1:

Here are the curves. This test was done before we completed the tuning so there are a few dips that were later tuned out. Check out my gallery for the final dyno graph with the pipes each set 1/2 way between TQ and HP.

I checked out your final curves, and I think they look great. :flamejump I also noticed the reversion dip looks very similar to a 2 into 1 pipe dip, almost non-existant. My compliments to whoever tuned out the 3500-4000 rpm hickups.
I guess the question is, are you happy with the pipes now? How did your tuner feel about them after the dyno session?

I am very happy with the results. Jeremy (the tuner) was also pleased with the results. He had used Hookers before but not this specific model. Performance and sound are great which makes it easier to overlook the challanges we had with the fit up.
The sound is unique and I have had a few compliments on it already. I would record it and post it but my digital cam does not have video or audio capabilities. I guess I need to quit buying Harley parts and get a digital video cam. :spank:

One of the reasons I suggested to you the hookers was the sound. I've personally heard these pipes and I love the destinctive growl they have. I recently had a customer that wanted Python slip-ons for his bagger, and they were on backorder. He wanted them because he had heard them and loved the sound. I talked him into trying the Hookers as they were available, and told him how I felt they sounded. A couple of weeks later I got a phone call from him thanking me, and telling me how he didn't think he could like a sound better than the Pythons, but the he indeed liked the Hookers better!
The second reason I suggested them, was performance, just by the design of the pipe and baffle you know they are going to run good. I think too many people overlook Hooker pipes as they are part of an automotive company, and don't market themselves like other pipe manufacturers for Harley do.
P.S. I know everyone wants Rineharts, and that they have stepped tubes, but Hooker has had stepped headpipes and ceramic coatings for years before rineharts were available.
My .02
I'll find a method to record their sound and post the audio clip for all to enjoy.
