i hate (with a capitol H-A-T-E) the pipes on my bike. sound weak, look like a rice-burner's pipes and to me don't fit the bike at all. now, that said, my "in-too-deep" mentality says i should try to make my own even though i know nothing about exhaust systems really. would this be too big a project? and if not, i've seen a ton of info out there so where would be a good place to look in your professional opinion? i've seen such awesome custom pipes on several rides here so thanks for your input!

ninj, if it is carbed you can do it. Are your pipes now stock? If so , you may want to look into rejetting the carb also. You can make your own and baffle them so they don't sound wierd. Nothing worse than an aweful sounding set of pipes. Let us know what you need to know ,and it will be done my friend.

hey man, i made my own pipes with no expierence at all. i bought the pre bent exhaust pipe, had a bud let me borrow his 110 plug in the wall mig welder with flux wire, no gas (he also gave me a welding lesson for a couple a hours that was really helpfull), then i bought some strait pipe, cut it into a bunch a pieces and practised welding it together, after i was comfortable i moved onto the exhausts. as long as you can get your hands on a welder, a grinder you should be good :) i have a thread up here somewhere (i don't know how to post thread links:() that covers the whole build of my pipes, i think its in the "you can do it yourself" section

it is carbed and my goodness is it ever stock! haha working on that though. what exactly do you mean 'rejetting the carb'?

yeah i've seen your build (and love the result might i add) and have taken a few things away from it... i have it saved i think... anyway the welder will be no problem and i've been wanting to buy a grinder for a while.
thanks for the input guys! i just didn't know what i needed to take into cosideration since i've heard alot about checking back pressure (?) and putting baffles in. and like i said, just learning all this stuff. never been one for 'out-of-the-box' parts/looks. so making my pipes will be a helluva big step for me.

carbs have a small jet needle the bigger the jet the more power, I think, carb bikes are alot easyer to work on, only reason I bought mine, I have seen some build power books for imports, they are good for information, but on building pipes shovel will be able to help alot.

Ninj, you may want to ask your local dealer if they keep different jets for your carb. Probably so. Just email me and I will give you a tip on making some really inexpensive baffles. I'd be glad to help ,you know that.
