View Full Version : 01 flhtci exauhst
OK I've derd sooo much about exhaust systems And now it's time to buy. But before I do I just want to make the right choice. I have an 01 flhtci with stock pipes and samson rolled thunder slip ons( not to happy with them) and a power comander III. Just want some advice as to which brand to go with> I like the 2 into 2 look. So I'm looking at pipes and mufflers and slip ons. The brands I'm interested in are the vance and hines, rineharts, hookers, and pyhtons... Need some thought on them so that I can come down to a choice. I've been looking real hard at the rineharts though.
any advice would be helpfull.. :death:
thanks

I have Hooker tuned flow mufflers on my 01 FLHTPI. These things are great if you ask me. A very slight amount of backfire if I cut the throttle quickly right around 2200 rpm. This is due not so much to a lean cond but the EFI cutting the gas off and then turning it back on when at idle speed. If I judiciously let off the throttle I can avoid it altogether. This is a stock bike too. Going to put a Dobeck TFI on it along with K&N cleaner. Thats all the mods I will be doing. The pipes make a big big difference even now. Better low end andmid range response and the sound is great. Not overly loud but they know you are comming when you get onit. You can tune the mufflers really easily. Left side is torque and right side h.p. Just dial them in with what works best for your applicaton. thanks
let me know as with the other mods

Here is an update. Just put the DFO on along with Ness super sucker. THe DFO is set at 3 6 4 and 4. Lots of decel popping and backfiring still at the 2200 rpm range. It is worse now! Called dobeck and talked to George a very nice fella. He said to increase the green pot to 3.5. I also just won a bid on ebay for a set of Samson true duals. So I will be putting them on when they arrive. Got them super cheap. Still sealed in plastic. Anyways I haven't done anything to the DFO since it got pretty cool with a north east wind off Ontario. I will goof with it tomorrow some more. I can't belive I am saying this but I think it ran better when all I did was punch the mufflers out of the stock mufflers. The Hookers weren't to bad either. Hey beats me. I know nothing about EFI bikes to tell the truth. Jets were much easier for me. Screw them in and dial em up and see which works best. keepem sharp
PS I aint' no dedicate bar hopper or poker runner whatever they are.
Here is an update. Removed the air cleaner to get at the throttle body today and the supporting linkage for it. Sprayed it with carb cleaner, backed out the cold idle screw after the bike was warmed up, reset warm idle to 1050 via that screw, sparayed the area lightly with wd40. Bike fully warmed up and now I am gettin the response I should from the DFO. Noticeable response too. Idled bike at 2k and adjustment of the green pot took idle up to 2300 just like it was supposed to. Pot adj. was on almost but not quite 3 o'clock position. Put the others at 6 and 4 and 4. rode the bike and roll on was very good. Still getting popping but that is due to still having on the stock exhaust. No matter what anyone tells you having the stock exhaust on the bike even with a flash and mufflers you will still get popping. No matter what! So with the samsons coming today hopefully that will even be cured. The reason for popping is the left side just acts as a scavanger for air. Hence popping on decel due to that fact. Plug up the left side and it will go away or get true dual headers like samson, rhinehart, vance and hinse etc etc. keepem sharp
PS also I am not sold on the stage 1 flash HD downloads. Brother in law had it done to his bike and he is still getting a backfire on ocassion and lots of popping. Here is the story as I understand it about the flash. It doesn't add fuel to the bike really at all. Reason being if it did it would change the pollution control settings on the bike and this is illegal for HD to do. A PC or DFO like Dobeck makes doesn't even touch the fuel map that HD downloads. It is independant of that. So if you take either off you are back to square one. hope all this helps.
