I was talking to my harley tech trying to decide what kind of pipes to put on my o8 streetglide ie. slipons true duals rhinharts vance and hines etc. and he suggested that he let me allow him to take a look at modifying the stock pipes minimum charge he is pretty sure that he can improve the sound i am not looking for extreme loudness anymore i had vance and hines on my o6 heritage and they sounded great but they were loud and i did do damage to my hearing which my doctor says is permanent anyways i absolutey love my streetglide but i want more of that deep rumble a little more noise but not much anyone out there try this approach i heard 1 06 heritage where this was done and it sounded better than my vance and hines but then ive heard a few bikes where it sounded terrible any feedback thanx

i had a buddy with baffles in a set of rienhearts and they sounded pritty good, he then cut the baffles down considerabley and welded the tips back together and threw them back in, they sound real good now. i would be weary, will it still cover yr warenty? is he definetly trustworthy? can he change back what he modifies? will yr scoot still run the way its supposed to or will you need a re-map? lots of questions to ask. it would stink to pay him to do it and it doesn't come out right or yr scoot starts popin and backfiring all the time and you end up buying new pipes anyway. i would say ask yr guy those questions before you make up yr mind

I'm running my stockers with the center drilled out now.

It sounds like a wounded dog. Don't do it.

I'll make a sound clip tomorrow and show everyone.

Here it is. you can hear the whistle a little bit but it actually sounds like I have a bird in there standing right next to it. They're quiet when at idle and a little louder under load but not a good sound
The metal center has been punched out and totally removed for straight through exhaust. For a minimal charge? took me about 10 minutes to punch out the centers of these, it's only a thin metal piece that is about halfway down the muffler. I pierced it twice with a long (nail) then sent a socket down the hole with an extension on it. about 4 hits with the 10 lb and the whole thing came out. The way any of the stock pipes are made makes it hard to modify any other way. They're completely sealed from stem to stern and the baffle isn't removeable unless you tear the whole thing out.
It sounds sick when under load.
Save yourself the time and fork out the cash for some slip ons.IMHO
If you do go the route of the mechanic post a sound bite and some info on what he did. I'm sure other people may want to hear

With the supertrap slip ons you can tune the sound by adding or subtracting the discs, very quiet to very loud.

I don't think they sound bad but it's hard to tell without a load on the engine. I have stock pipes on my 07 Bob and they got louder and deeper sounding as the bike got broken in. I like the sound now. Many people have asked me what I did to get that sound. I guess it was just the way I drove it to break it in.

I drilled my stock mufflers on my 2001 FXDX and they sound great!

Just ask anyone at the M&G. Even the Dog said they sounded good and you know how hard he is to please. LOL
