Anyone know the torque specs for the exhaust flange where it bolts to the heads? '03 TC88B

Thanks,

Dallas

It's a 5/16 stud Rattle, and I torque mine to 18ft lbs, or about as tight as I can get with a stubby rachet (short handle not regular). :boldlgree

Be sure to work both sides evenly, and tighten them the same amount of threads if possbile.

That was a quick reply! Thanks again Jim.

BTW - Those pipes look beautiful!

On that note, I have a computer problem. Everytime I try to download the pics from my camera to my PC it crashes. I thought it was my 6 in 1 card reader so I went and bought a usb card reader. Still crashes. I'll figure it out sooner or later though...

Well, that didn't go right, unless of course the exhaust gaskets are supposed to smoke!
:lightingz

I'll have to work on it later, right now I have to get ready for work.

You'll see some smoke, because the pipe is new and so are the gaskets, but is it puffing out exhaust from the head? :tard:

There's a little bit of smoke coming from both heads, but there's quite a bit coming out of the exhaust pipe itself. I must not have gotten them seated properly or something. :tard: It doesn't do it until it's been running for 30 seconds or so and starts to heat up. I suspect it's more the gaskets than the pipes, but I'm not sure. They'll have to wait until later though, I'm beat.

Rattle,

First of all, is your bike injected? If so what are you doing to handle the additional flow of that pipe for fuel?

Second the pipe is going to smoke because of oils and the coating thats on it from the factory, also the gaskets will smoke some until they are broken in. If your seeing puffs (like each time the engine fires it beelows out smokes) from the cylinder head then something is wrong. If your just seeing smoke roll off the pipes and the point where they mount to the head, this is normal until it burns away all the oils from manufactureing. The one thing that concerns me though, is if your not adding fuel to the bike to compensate for the additional exhaust fllow then your running the pipe too lean and very hot at the same time. This can ruin the coating, and possibly damage the engine.

Please let me know, which it is, if it's just smokeing or if it's puffing. Maybe give me a call so I can get a better idea what your seeing.

Yes, it's fuel injected. I haven't had the ECU flashed yet, but I only ran it for about 30 seconds at idle and I still have the stock air filter assembly on it.

It's smoking from the heat, not from a leak. The smoke out the pipe didn't really surprise me, but I was suprised to see it smoke at the heads. I've checked it again and the pipes are set in the heads like they should be.

At the heads is the hottest spot in the exhaust system, especially where it makes it's first bend.

Also if your bike is too lean, thats where that black coating will bubble. I would be careful not to ride it until you at least do a flash (which will probably still be too lean) or install a r/t or Power commander. I know they won't warranty the pipe if the coating is torched. :gasthrowe

I want to get a Power Commander but I don't have the $$$ right now. Shoot, I may call you up and have you run my credit card through, if it goes then I'll buy, if it fails then I'll wait :thumb:

full of good ideas

I'm glad my wife puts up with me.
