Hi all. I need a little help, I have vance hines true duals on my softail deluxe and i have noticed that the left pipe gets a little hot under my leg. I wanted to wrap that area above the primary with heat tape and the put the heat sheild back on. I'm just trying to deflect some of the heat. It would be about 8 to 10 inches that i would wrap. what do you guys think of this.

It does work but the tape under the heat shield is tacky looking if it is anything like a friend of mine did on his 07 Street Glide.

They mak a black heat tape that no one will notice. It will also help the hot leg thing.

Put the heat wrap on can't even see it under the heat shield. Boy does it work, cuts the heat about 75%. stopping at a light isnt painful any more. used the black wrap. I reccomend this for any one with true duals and cant stand the heat off the left side.

I used DEi - Thermal Tuning Exhaust Wrap black. I wet it before i put it on. made it easer to wrap, a little messy but you can get a real tight wrap that way.

I too was thinking about wrapping pipes under heat shields, but plan to do the left (rear) on stock header on my 04 electraglide to promote more flow on the left pipe as hot gas flows faster. I am running supertrap slip ons with fish tails. I have six discs on the left and four on the right, also to promote more flow on the underused left side. this seems to work. I am very happy with the supertraps that I installed 2 weeks ago. Any opinions?

I've been using tape only for 2 years. It helps by keeping exhaust gas's hot and gets it out faster. Also prevents instant 3rd degree if you touch it hot. Soak it for few hrs in cold water 1st. Downside is it's kinda fragile and expensive, but then again I need a 50ft roll. Needs a 3/4 overlap to be effective.
