Im looking for general opinions, all are welcome!
Im tryin to make a decision on pipes for my soon to be Road King custom. Any and all opinions on all aspects of why either is better would be apreciated.

To me it really matters on type of look you really want, and find the appropriate sound if you can.

I originally changed to Screamin Eagle slip on mufflers with changable tips, but it was still too quiet in my opinion.

So then I decided to change over to "Bub Stubbies" as I personally like the drag pipe type look & sound better than the stock dual side system with mufflers, and the long dual pipe look link the Vance & Hines Long Shots and such.

The Stubbies cleaned up the look of the bike below the bags, and allow for a smooth look if you go bagless (Im currently gathering all the parts and such to convert to a bagless look when I want, and then go back to back to bags when I want).

I get a lot of looks when I ride from other bagger owners. I havent had a bad comment given yet. Its also funny to see people walk up on the left side of a bagger and start looking for the exhaust...lol. They are loud though, so remember that. They come with baffles, but are still nice and loud. I love the loud sound, and the short pipes look is awesome.

I just saw that "LA Choppers" came out with a Pro Series for Road Kings. They look sharp, but cost over $500.00, and my Stubbies were only $250.00

Good Luck!!!

So far youre the second person that has mentioned the "look" I do like how true duals clean up the right side of the bike but Ive heard bikes with slip ons that sounded great! Im still debating. Im a cheap bastard at heart so Ill probably wind up with slip ons :elk:

I have a friend who has Hooker slip-on's on his Ultra-Classic and really loves them. I ordered them for the Ultra-Classic that I am supposed to pick up next (weather permitting). I probably won't put mine until after break in, but looking forward to them. I really like the sound of his, not to loud, but you know he's coming.

Has anyone ever heard of "B&E Super Flow" exhaust slip ons? The salesman who sold a 2007 Road KIng Classic to me bought them for his bike and they sound good. They are sold on Ebay for $170.

I'm having Python Slip-Ons put on my Road King. Nice look and sound good too.... Would have liked Rinehart True Duals but my kids want to go to Disney so I scaled back for now.

I have slipons that are Supertrapp Supermegs with 4" disc's on my 02 Road King with a slight slash cut to them. The thing that I like about them is they are tunable as to hp/tq to get the most out of your bikes mods. With my 95" motor, flat top pistons, adjustable pushrods, a very mild Andrews gear drive cam 26G (490 lift) and a TFI I had 80 hp & 95 tq with 18 discs each side and solid end caps. After I had my stock heads reworked by Branch Flowmetrics we had to pull the end caps and 10 disc's out of each side to get the best performance. New open end caps were put on and I ended up with a much nicer rumble and increased my performance to 88 hp and 101 tq. This is not bad for a mild build and the tq curve from 90 lbs tq to 101 lb's to 90 lb tq covers a range of 2600 rpm's. I wan't the SNOW to melt!!! I want to ride!

I have an '04 Road King Custom. I bought the SE slip ons with the fish tail tips. Like the way they look, but too quiet. I then installed Sampson slip-ons "ovals" - They are louder, but have a mid-range sound. I too am still on the hunt for "the sound"; that deep throaty rumble. So far, Rinehart True duals are the best sounding pipes I've heard - they are pricey though. It is a balancing act - You want loud enough pipes, but also have to have the right amount of back pressure or your bike will run like crap. Ride safe!

I have an '07 Road King Custom. Went with RUSH slip-ons and took the baffles out. Yeah it's LOUD and sound good too. Also did the SE 1, and XIEDs from night rider to richen up the fuel mix. Had it like that for almost 5000 miles and the plugs look the same. I was leary at first so I checked them every couple hundered miles. Still look the same today as they did when I first did it.

A friend told me about Fullsac a place in Arizona who will re-core your stock mufflers. This is supposed to give a better sound and add some performance. Has anyone done business with them? What is your opinion? To re-core a set of muflers it costs $199 + shipping.

To me it's all about how much do you want to spend$$$ v.s. what do you want.
and Performance, looks, sound all go under what do you want.

For 2009, you have limited options, and not sure on smog laws and where we are headed here in California... I would just opt for good quality mufflers for now. and I've see the prices from 299 to 800. I like the looks of Bub7, the sound of Rinharts & Vance & Hines... but I keep going back to those Jackpot mufflers for 299... they have a great sound and look great and did I mention 299?
