Does anyone know if you can put fishtail straight pipe extensions on stock header pipes for a 05 dyna ? Not sure of size maybe 36" or something but my concern is, will the ends work in a staggard formation using the stock head pipe. I was also wondering if they sound different due to longer pipes and fish tip. I think they should tune a little better then the shorter straight pipes. :goldfish:

While I don't know whether they will work together on your bike, fit-wise, I've run them off and on for years. Yes, they sound different. Some people like the sound, and some don't. Tuning for them isn't much different than normal drag pipes if the 'tails have no baffles. The extra length probably reduces power a bit, but I can't back that up with any dyno figures, just my semi-edjimicated guess. I usually ran only one fishtail off 2-into-1 stock dresser head pipes with the crossover piece blocked with a freeze plug, and the internal crossover located in the rear head pipe cut out. Made the bike sound like an old Pan that belonged to a friend of my Dad's.

Fishtails sound good on my Twincam.
You will have to use baffles because of the power loss of strait pipes. Strait pipes are good for drag racing on the high end of the RPM range, but a Twincam needs the back pressure for the low and midrange of RPM. I put my baffles 10 inches from the fishtail end of the pipe, using a j-clip nut on the baffle. Cut a coat-hanger to push it in and a small piece to align the holes. It's easier than it sounds, really.

Thanks for the reply, How would the stock header pipe effect the sound and performance, because of that cross-over piece?? Do I need to block it off or leave it open? I cant remember if the stock headpipe off-sets the pipes or lines them up under each other for enough room for the fishtails.

If your stock head pipes have a cross-over, use it. It'll help scavenge and give you a bit more torque than without it.

Will they still have that drag pipe sound if I use the stock headpipe with the cross-over tube in it??

Close enough that most won't be able to tell. And if you don't like it, then you can block the crossover.
