Here's my first rookie question...
I'm wondering what is it exactly about certain exhaust systems that makes that thick sound, and second what type of pipes would you recommend for my Sportster....I do like that thick sound. My factory pipes just aren't cutting it for me!!!

Steeltown,
You will get a lot of differing opinions on pipes and sounds. The best opinion is yours. Too bad we're coming into winter. The best thing to do is go to HOG meetings, Bike Nite, any local gathering and listen to different pipes and talk to the owner. When you hear "your" sound, thats it. Ask about their system. Are they slip ons? Did they do an air change? (stage one) Did they dyno or remap? Find out what they did to get that sound.
I just put some SE II's on my FXST and improved the sound 1000%. There is still more I could do but for right now I at least don't sound stock.
They also sell a CD of exhaust sounds at some dealerships :tongue2: Mine came with vance + hines, I like the sound a lot after it's warmed up. Almost too loud for city riding, but hey it's legal, right? :elk: Like Wind said there's a lot of preference invloved.
Ingrid's 01 1200C runs Samson Street Sweepers, and they look, and sound, great.

Howdy STEELTOWN. { thought that was Hamilton. not T.O. } L.O.L.
I think there's a big bike show coming in early Dec. to Toronto . You might get some pipe idea's there.

Hey Snoman, I do plan on going to that show for sure!!!
Yes your right...Steeltown in Ontario is Hammer Town, but my Steeltown is Pittsburg as I am a huge Steelers fan. I figured someone else on this board was from Ontario and would probably get confused by that!!!
Are you going to the show as well??

My personal opinion---V&H Big Shots Staggered. Had the original Big Shots but they sounded to crackly. Heard the staggereds on another Deuce and loved the deep throaty sound.
Yea, and I'm also a Steeler fan!!!! And they play New England this Sunday. Bye bye win streak, Patriots! :flamejump
Well, all streaks must come to an end I guess...
Hey steeltown - I just remembered  that I have a video clip hosted with my exhaust sound at idle. Honestly I don't know what model of V&H are on my dyna but I could find out if you're interested. There are also some clips posted in "trip and route spot" that have the sound at speed.
This one is a quickie I made to show some people my first accessories.

Be careful. Don't be overly influenced by these sounds, even though it is great of everyone to "pipe" in and try to help.
Remember, the Deuce and Dyna have 1450 engines and yours is a 1200. I'm not positive but I would think that could make a difference.
Listen to other Sporty's.
Anyone who is a Steelers fan is OK with me. :thumb:
