Blue Pipes

Well, I just removed the V&H Big Shots from my '02 Deuce to prep them for Ebay. I've had them since I picked up my bike new. I noticed that they sure are blued---darkest near the input. The Stage I was setup by the dealer but is this because of lean EPA setup requirements? Is all that bluing typical? My bike was checked at 10,000 miles with no problems reported, no engine harm. I'm just a little concerned because a propective buyer might think I've abused the pipes.

Boom, blue pipes are usually the a sign of running lean but they all turn blue underneath the heat shields to a certain extent. I've had to run my bike without the Power Commander in order to have warranty service performed and that caused the bike to run lean and my pipes are also blue under the heat shields. They usually are more blue closer to the motor.

If the heat shields are in good shape don't worry about it. I wouldn't turn down a nice set of pipes that are blue if the heat shields looked good.
