I just had screaming eagle pipes put on and air, when i let go of throtle I get some back fire, that is not normal is it ?
Road King,
I am assuming your Bike is EFI.
Did you get the dealer to do a Stage 1 flash on your ECM?
If not, try that first, be prepared to dish out 125-175 Dollars.
The next step if that does not solve problem, or if you intend to do additional performance mods , is either a Power Commander, or the Harley Race Tuner.
Read up on past posts for opionions on both units.
Of course if you are Carbuerated, you may need to rejet.
BTW, exhaust gaskets are tight and not leaking, or torn?
Good Luck,
Let us know what you end up doing

Vic pretty much exhausted :) my thoughts but I would bet there is a gasket leak if all else was modded on your bike.

just got back from h-d/service they said that because the pipes r bigger it has less back pressure and there is not alot u can do about that, Ithink he is full of s---.
First is the bike EFI or carbed? Either way that dealer is FOS. What you are experiencing is called decel pop and it will NOT hurt anything, it just sounds ugly & it can be remedied with a tune. Find another dealer and a good shop that knows how to tune.

I have vance and Hines pipes on a 02 King and it does the same thing have people tell to get stage 1 kit. But i guess it normal.

I have had tunes done from more then one shop and 02 King is EFI it not obssive but stil back fires
Just because it normally happens when doing some mods doesn't mean its nomally supposed to. It should be able to be tuned out.

You don't say whether the baffles are in or out. I'm going to guess they are in since you're talking SE pipes. I know with the baffles removed from my V&H pipes, they backfired like crazy. Reinstalled, and the problem went away.
I think the may problem, however is a lean condition. If you have EFI and have done the pipes and air, you either need the ECU flash or a Power Commander with the right map. If you have carb, then you may likely need some re-jetting. I know with the V&H pipes the recommend re-jetting.
But, some light popping is fairly common I think when you get more airflow.
I have an 04 fat boy with the stage 1 kit, and a set of 3" Hard Krome big straight pipes. My ecu was flashed and I get mild off throttle deceleration pops. I don't get any backfires. If you are getting backfires my dealer says there is something amiss. He says it is normal to get some popping while decelerating off throttle, but you should never experience a full backfire. If there are backfires find someone who can set things straight.

Mattib,
Just FYI. I had a stage 1 with Screamin' Eagle pipes and when I switched to V&H Straightshots I had mild popping on decel (especially going downhill). Any change to your setup (away from HD products) you will need to change your map. As soon as I installed the Power Commander IIIr and downloaded the correct map for my setup my bike runs great and I have ZERO popping! Just a lot of good ol' fashioned Harley girgling and rumble!
hdfatboy02,
Thanks for your feedback. I'm a brand new Harley rider and I'm learning everyday. So now that you have the power commander you have lost all deceleration popping? So most likely the map is incorrect if popping occurs?

My carbed bike popped a lot until the jetting was right. A power commander just gets your jetting a timing in line for your mods, and hence less pop.

Mattib,
Yes, all popping is gone. The HD mapping is only for HD products. Once you go aftermarket you will need to adjust the map to get the correct air/fuel mixture. The Power Commander was the best money that I have spent on the bike yet! Ride Safe!
