Weak battery?

I had a weak start, and thought the batt was due for replacement. But…
Before you replace it, try this. I did and it worked very well.

Remove the battery and check the water/acid level. If you can see dry plates with a flashlight, then try adding a little water before replacing it.

Remove the cover to the cells that says “DO NOT REMOVE” :nono:
 , carefully and slowly with a knife. If not wet, add distilled water, just a little over the plates. But not too much. Do not fill to the “rings” like we did in the old days. I used a clean turkey basting dropper and found that just over 1 ounce for each cell was just about right for my battery. Tilt the battery 35 degrees to horizontal and allow any excess water to flow out if you over filled it. Careful, hydrochloric acid is dangerous to everything, except earth. Do not over fill in the first place, because not only is it dangerous, you will lose acid, and you want to keep that stuff.

Clean terminals and securely tighten, but just enough to make tight. Happy starting.

Tool sizes:
10 mm for battery posts
7/16” for hold down bracket.

I know this is real simple, but sometimes simple things are good. :burnout:

And, by the way, what is with that "do not remove"? I thought we were to conserve, and keep using things for their usefull full life. :wtf:
but that remark was just a :brainfart:
