first of all my 99 springer takes a long time to warm up so I have to have the enrichener out just a tad for awhile, which is not good. There are no leaks and I have rebuilt the carb(CV) with a thunderslide kit. I have interchanged the jets till I'm blue in the face. It has a screaming eagle air filter. I have come to the conclusion that this carb is a peice of junk and need someone else to confirm. Does anybody out there have any ideas. The CV is a very good and durable carb. I hate not being able to fix something. I know there is a way. I'm just not seeing it. Any suggestions? Thanks Daddio

How about plug wires?

Worth looking at. :hmmmm:

Daddio,
I am dealing with the same thing on mine. One thing that I am going to try is replacing my voltage regulator. What is the condition of yours? What is your output battery voltage at about 2000 RPM? Another thing that I am going to look at is swithing from dual fire to a single fire coil. A good source for information on the two types and draw backs of dualfire is www.daytona-twintec.com My bike seems to be running rich even though I keep lowering my intermediate jet size. I think that my problem is lack of good spark. Just a couple more places to look. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick suggestion, but I failed to mention brand new heavy duty plug wires. I'm using the stock plug 5R6A so I might use a hotter plug and see what happens. I still don't like the richness of the rear cylinder. I also put an electronic ignition in her to no avail and yes I checked the gas tank check valve and one more thing, the carb float is good. I have stumped many mechanics with this one.

Another thing you can look at, if you are running un baffled drag pipes try putting in some torque cones.
During valve overlap the torque cones will help ensure that no exhaust gets pulled back into the combustion chamber dilluting the fresh intake, witch will not burn clean and contribute to fouling plugs.

Any progress yet? What type of electronic ignition did you put into your bike? Today I changed my voltage regulator, now I am firing with full voltage. I also switched from dual fire to a single fire coil. These changes, so far, have made a world of differance. Most electronic systems can be set up either way so it is worth the time to verify which coil was installed. On mine, the last owner went cheap and set it up for dual fire when it needed a new coil, it had been built with single fire. After I fix an error I made on my carb float and get it to stop draining gas out the over flow I will be able to give it the proper test.

Good luck
